Do Critics Think Lion King Is A ‘roaring Success’?

Disney’s Lion King remake, starring Donald Glover and Beyonce, has been explained equally by pun-tastic critics as both a “roaring success” and “tame”. The original 1994 computer animation received two Oscars for best music and score, while the stage version is also Broadway’s top grossing musical. Director Jon Favreau, who remade The Jungle Book also, has used photorealistic computer animation in the film. Beyonce and Glover will be the voices of lions Simba and Nala respectively.

British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor supplies the voice for the villainous Scar. Inside a four-star review, The Telegraph said “the power of the new Lion King comes from the outside”. The Lion King is the latest in a line of big new remakes, pursuing Cinderella, Beauty AS WELL AS THE Beast and Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin. The film features tunes by Sir Tim Rice and Sir Elton John, 25 years after their original Oscar-winning attempts.

The Guardian, were less impressed with the film, writing that the “deepfake copycat ain’t so grrreat”. The Independent was impressed incidentally Disney managed to keep “finding new ways to inform old stories”. Writer Clarisse Loughrey offered it four celebrities, praising the movie as a “technological marvel of unprecedented hyperrealism”.

Variety’s Peter Debruge was impressed by the CGI, stating the “animals look utterly convincing”, adding that the film would win over old supporters and win new ones too. Todd McCarthy in The Hollywood Reporter was less gushing along with his praise, stating very few remakes experienced adhered concerning their original variations as that one carefully.

The Daily Mail’s Brian Viner disagreed and went as far to say this version of The Lion King “could just be the best” Disney remake yet, but with one or two reservations. Jeremy Irons “for fruity, baritone menace”, the movie was a “terrific film in its own right”. Kevin Maher in The proper times gave it four stars, and agreed that “it’s better than the original”.

He also preferred Ejiofor’s portrayal of Simba’s uncle and the jealous younger sibling of Mufasa, contacting Ejiofor’s performance “masterful”.
